Pine Orchard Union Chapel

Pine Orchard Union Chapel is an amazing restoration project The Cooper Group had the pleasure of being a part of. The historic landmark sits proudly along Connecticut’s coastline and is a cherished landmark for the community of Branford. Built in 1897, the original building cost for this modest wood frame building was $1,532.

The scope included restoration of seven 42 over 2 windows, six sets of 24 over 24 and two 24 over 1 windows. This process involves stripping all sash and frames of lead paint, stabilizing the wood, performing necessary repairs to damaged muntins, repairing the frame, reglazing, prime & painting, and reinstalling.

In addition to the fenestration work, The Cooper Group repainted the entire structure, completed rot repair and boracare treatment to the frame under the building along with replacement of a large beam on the west side. A new back deck was built and various improvements were made to the cupola. The cupola work consists of stripping and re-shingling the roof and sidewalls with Western Red Cedar shingles, replacing sills and broken louvers, and adding copper flashing and a wooden finial to compliment other elements of the building.
